My character backstories

 Character backstory’s

Character Backstories isn’t something im choosing to incorporate into my physical film, nevertheless I think it’s important for my characters to have a backstory so that the actors can play the characters on a more personal and accurate level.

My central protagonist (Christopher Brown) had a sheltered childhood in a middle class environment. He was an only child who lived with his parents, Mary and Stewart. From a young age Christopher was picked on and bullied at school because he was ‘different’. Later on in his childhood Christopher came out to his parents as gay, although this was not a shock to his parents, they were very accepting of him. Growing up in the countryside and having few friends, Christopher spent a lot of time in nature and with animals. Although he lacked human contact and friendship, he wasn’t a lonely person, he enjoyed his won company and being an introvert.

On an ordinary Tuesday morning after breakfast Chris’s parents decided to go out for the day. That was the last time he ever saw them. He came across a note on the kitchen table stating, “Im sorry darling but we have to go now, we love you always”. In shock and not being able to afford the property, desperately seeking for work Alex moved alone to North London where he currently lives now (Alone). Typically he looks like an ordinary man, that’s easy to approach, but in reality he has many things in common with his unknown stalker.

The idea in the short clip of my film is that you don’t see the antagonist (Stalker), to build suspense and curiosity. But what are the reasons behind why he is who he is? Like my protagonist the stalker was an only child who lived alone with his parents, they were a poor family that struggled to provide for their son. Unlike Christopher, the stalker didn’t have a healthy relationship with his alcoholic, drug abusing parents ,(who left when he was around 11), and was a victim of child neglect. This was hard for him as he was bullied at school and didn’t have any kind of support network. Desperate for love and affection he began to develop unhealthy relationships, potentially resulting in him becoming a stalker. Like my protagonist the ‘Stalker’ is gay but closeted as he fears the very few people involved in his life won’t accept him for who he is, and that coming out will ruin other peoples perceptions of him. Unlike Christopher he doesn’t enjoy his won company and struggles massively with social anxiety and depression, he lives in a lonely world.
